Bela Ventura's profile

Maria Rosa Henson

Maria Rosa Luna Henson (1927-1997) was the first comfort women to tell her story of sex enslavement from Japanese soldiers during World War II. Henson wrote the book "Rosa Henson: Comfort Woman, Slave of Destiny," which tells the story of nine months of her life as a 16-year-old comfort woman. She did not only courageously wrote her story, she also drew sketches of these sickening events. The originals of these sketches are on display at the Ateneo Library of Women's Writings.

This admirable woman was able to continue to live her life despite the horrors that have happened and more than that, even told her truth, a truth that is still similar to the truth of other women today.
